Giving birth in Paris, with the same doctor from start to finish.

In brief

Giving birth in Paris with the same doctor from start to finish: Dr Kadoch provides pregnancy care, ultrasound scans and delivery at Maternité Sainte-Félicité (Paris 15th arrondissement) and Clinique Sainte-Thérèse (Paris 17th arrondissement), working with each maternity unit's team of midwives, anaesthetists and paediatricians. Register with a maternity unit as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed. The maternity stay is usually 72 to 96 hours after a vaginal birth (HAS 2014), 3 to 5 nights after a caesarean.

You are welcomed by the midwife on duty. Dr Kadoch is present for the delivery, together with the anaesthetist for the epidural and the maternity unit's paediatrician.

If Dr Kadoch is not available when you give birth, you are cared for by the maternity unit's obstetrician on duty or by a colleague designated by Dr Kadoch.

Maternity stay: usually 72 to 96 hours after a vaginal birth (HAS 2014), 3 to 5 nights after a caesarean. Early discharge always comes with home follow-up, for example midwife visits. A postnatal consultation 6 to 8 weeks after the birth: examination, contraception, and a prescription for pelvic floor rehabilitation if needed.

When should I register with a maternity unit in Paris?

As early as possible, ideally as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed: maternity units in Paris often fill up quickly.

Can I have an epidural?

Yes, after the mandatory anaesthetic consultation in the third trimester.

What happens if I need a caesarean section?

Dr Kadoch performs it himself, whether planned or as an emergency, under regional anaesthesia in most cases.

What costs should I expect?

Antenatal care and delivery are reimbursed by the Assurance maladie (French national health insurance) on the basis of its tariffs. A written estimate is provided in advance for the delivery fees; any additional fee may be covered by your top-up insurance. C2S (formerly CMU) and AME are accepted.

Where should I go in an emergency during pregnancy?

To the emergency department of the maternity unit where you are registered. In a life-threatening emergency, call 15 or 112.
